2015 CVC Player of the Week

 

CVC PLAYER OF THE WEEK - APRIL 6
Cody Chidsey, Rutgers University - Newark

Chidsey, a junior from Bath, Pa., has received the CVC Player of the Week award for the second consecutive week. Chidsey, a middle blocker, helped his team to a perfect 3-0 record including a five set upset win over #4 ranked Juniata College. In that match Chidsey finished with 19 kills on 30 attempts while adding two block assists. He followed with 15 kills in a win over Eastern Mennonite and closed out the week with 22 kills and five total blocks in a win over Marymount. On the week Chidsey hit .505 with 56 kills in 13 sets while totaling eight blocks.

 

 

CVC PLAYER OF THE WEEK - MARCH 30
Cody Chidsey, Rutgers University - Newark

Chidsey, a junior from Bath, Pa., is this week's CVC Player of the Week after powering his team to a pair of conference wins last week. Chidsey hit over .500 in both matches and totaled 30 kills in just just three sets. Against Stevenson Chidsey finished with 19 kills on just 27 attempts, averaging 6.5 points per set. He followed with 11 kills in a 3-0 sweep of Thiel, committing just two errors on 16 attempts. For the week Chidsey hit .558 with 30 kills and six errors on 43 attempts. He also added three total blocks and four digs.

 

 

CVC PLAYER OF THE WEEK - MARCH 23
T.J. Wiechecki, Marymount University

Wiechecki, a freshman from Wilmington, Del., is the Continental Volleyball Conference Player of the Week for March 23. Wiechecki, an outside hitter, averaged 3.6 kills per set over three matches and finished with 40 points on the week. He started the week with a career high 18 kills against P.R. Mayaguez, adding three digs and one block assist. Wiechecki then helped the Saints to a conference win over Cairn, finishing with seven kills on just 10 swings with four digs and one solo block. He closed out the week with 11 kills and six block assists against Sacred Heart. On the week Wiechecki finished with 36 kills, 11 digs, and eight total blocks; averaging 4.1 points per set.

CVC PLAYER OF THE WEEK - MARCH 16
Kyle Wisner, Stevenson University

Wisner, a senior from York, Pa., is this week's Continental Volleyball Conference Player of the Week after leading his team's offense in a pair of wins last week. Wisner knocked out 49 kills in three matches last week, averaging 4.45 kills per set. Wisner started the week with 21 kills in a three set sweep of Lancaster Bible, adding three digs. He totaled 16 kills against Stevens and finished the week with 12 kills and six total blocks in a win over Hunter. On the week Wisner recorded 49 kills in 11 sets, hitting .231, with 10 digs and 11 total blocks while averaging 5.1 points per set.

CVC PLAYER OF THE WEEK - MARCH 9
Cody Chidsey, Rutgers-Newark

This week's Continental Volleyball Conference Player of the Week is a junior from Rutgers University-Newark. Chidsey, a middle hitter from Bath, Pa., helped his team to a pair of wins last week, picking up conference wins over Cairn and Stevenson. In his team's win over Cairn Chidsey recorded eight kills with just one error, adding four block assists and one service ace. Chidsey took his game to the next level against Stevenson, finishing with 27 kills in a five set battle. Chidsey hit .600 in the match with just three errors on 40 swings; adding six total blocks and one service ace.

 

CVC PLAYER OF THE WEEK - MARCH 2
Patrick Schuyler, Stevenson University

Schuyler, a junior from Harrisburg, Pa., is this week's CVC Player of the Week. Schuyler recorded four double digit kill matches, helping his team notch a pair of wins while also proving to be a hitting force. Not only did Schuyler lead his team in kills in three of four matches but he hit .413 on the week with the rest of the Mustang team hitting just .240 overall. Schuyler opened the week with 13 kills and eight digs against nationally ranked Elmira. Schuyler followed with a season high 16 kills in a 3-0 sweep of Wells, hitting. 682 in the match and adding eight digs and three block assists. He put down 15 kills in his following match against #6 ranked Nazareth and closed out the week with 10 kills against Penn State-Behrend. On the week Schuyler averaged 3.86 kills per set with 54 kills and just 11 errors. He added 2.14 digs per set and finished with six total blocks and six service aces.

CVC PLAYER OF THE WEEK - FEB. 23
Joe Bortak, Juniata College

Bortak, a senior middle blocker from Jeannette, Pa., is this week's Continental Volleyball Conference Player of the Week. Bortak averaged 4.57 kills per set in two conference wins last week. In his teams 3-1 win over Cairn Bortak put down 21 kills on 25 attempts while adding four total blocks. He finished the match with 24 points, chipping in six digs. In his next outing, a 3-0 sweep of Stevenson, Bortak recorded 11 kills, hitting .429 in the match, and adding seven digs and two blocks. On the week Bortak hit .630 with 32 kills and just three errors on 46 attempts. He recorded 13 digs, five total blocks, and 35.5 points in the two matches on the week.

CVC PLAYER OF THE WEEK - FEB. 16
Paul Kuhn, Juniata College

Kuhn, a senior outside hitter from York, Pa., is this week's CVC Player of the Week after helping Juniata to a pair of conference wins. Kuhn pounded out 12 kills in a three set sweep of Thiel in his team's CVC opener. He added three total blocks and three digs in the match. Kuhn was nearly unstoppable in his team's next match, putting down 13 kills on just 17 swings with no errors. He finished with five service aces and two blocks in the match, totaling 18.5 points. On the week Kuhn finished with 25 kills, hitting .590 and averaging 4.17 kills per set. He totaled 33 points in two matches on the week, averaging 5.5 points per set.

 

CVC PLAYER OF THE WEEK - FEB. 9
Kevin McCandless, Rutgers University-Newark

McCandless, a junior setter from Leesburg, Va., helped the Scarlet Raiders make a memorable debut in Continental Volleyball Conference play. Rutgers-Newark, who joined the CVC this year, won their first two conference matches with 3-0 sweeps over the weekend. McCandless recorded 33 assists in a three set sweep of Marymount, adding two service aces. He followed    with 31 assists in a sweep of Eastern Mennontie, adding five block assists and four digs. On the week McCandless averaged 10.67 assists per set and helped guide the offense to a .463 hitting percentage. 

 

CVC PLAYER OF THE WEEK - FEB. 2
Ryan Shelton, Juniata College

Shelton, a junior setter from Baldwinsville, N.Y., is this week's CVC Player of the Week after helping lead the Eagles to three wins on the weekend including a come from behind win over #5 Carthage College. Shelton stepped up as the team's top setter over the weekend, making his first three starts of the year, and led the Eagle attack to an efficient weekend. Shelton finished with 46 assists in a win over Benedictine, adding six digs. In the match he ran an offense that finished with a .429 hitting percentage. Later that night he recorded 43 assists on 54 of his team's kills in a win over Dominican, in which the team hit .305. He closed out the weekend with 33 assists in a come from behind 3-2 win over #5 ranked Carthage. On the week Shelton averaged 9.38 assists per set and finished with 122 assists in 13 sets.

CVC PLAYER OF THE WEEK - JAN. 26
Randall Colson, Cairn University

Colson, a junior Middle Hitter from Holbrooke, N.Y., is the first CVC Player of the Week of the 2015 season. Colson earned All-Tournament honors as the Highlanders opened their season in the Johnson & Wales Tournament. Colson registered 32 kills in four matches during the tournament, with a .472 hitting percentage. Colson recorded a high of 11 kills, on just 15 attempts, in his match against Johnson & Wales. He also added six blocks, with four kills, in a win over Purchase. On the week Colson averaged 2.7 kills and 3.3 points per set; finishing with 32 kills and 10 total blocks.
