2013 CVC Player of the Week

Past Winners: 2013 CVC PLAYER OF THE WEEK

 

Week 1- January 24, 2013

Pat Barry, Opposite Hitter
Carthage College

Carthage College opposite hitter Pat Barry (Skokie, Ill./ Wilmette-Loyola Academy) was named the Continental Volleyball Conference Player of the Week Award on Jan. 21 as the Red Men finished the week with a  1-1 record. Barry had 12 kills in a three set loss to NCAA Division I power Loyola-Chicago on Jan. 16. He followed that performance with a team-high 17 kills on 32 attempts and had a .438 hitting percentage on Jan. 20. Combined with his 1.5 blocks and three service aces in the match, Barry scored 21.5 points for Carthage in the non-conference win. On the week, he averaged 4.14 kills per set, a .311 hitting percentage, .57 blocks per set and averaged 5.1 points per set. 

 

 

Week 3- February 4, 2013

Kyle Wisner, Middle Hitter
Stevenson University

 Stevenson middle hitter Kyle Wisner (York, Pa./ Central York) receives the Continental Volleyball Conference player week for Feb. 4. Wisner hit .481  (15 kills, 2 errors, 27 attempts) and had six total blocks on the Mustangs way to a four-set victory over the Cairn Highlanders on Saturday. 

 

 

Week 4- February 15, 2013

David Moler, Setter
Stevenson University

Stevenson setter David Moler (York, Pa./ Central York) receives the Continental Volleyball Conference player week for Feb. 11. Moler had 121 assists and a 11.0 set assist average for the weekend as Stevenson went 2-1 at the CVC Crossover.  In a three-set victory over #2 ranked Carthage, Moler had 34 assists, 8 digs and 2 total blocks for the match.

 

 

 

 

Week 5- February 19, 2013

Rob Strauss, Setter
Juniata College

 

Juniata setter Rob Strauss (Penn Hills Pa./ Penn Hills) receives the Continental Volleyball Conference player week for Feb. 17. Strauss had 109 assists and a 7.79 assist average for the weekend.

In a five-set victory over #1 ranked Springfield, Strauss had 55 assists, an 11.0 set assist average and 12 digs  in a 3-2 upset of #1 ranked Springfield College. Juniata went 4-0 for the weekend at the Eagle invitational.  

 

 

 

Week 6- February 28, 2013

Austin Jacoby, Outside Hitter
Stevenson University

Stevenson’s junior outside hitter Austin Jacoby (Sellersville, Pa./ Pennridge) receives the Continental Volleyball Conference player week for Feb. 24. At the Baruch Invitational, Jacoby was a first team All-Tournament selection. Jacoby and the Mustangs went 3-1 on the weekend, including victories over Rivier, Emmauel and Elmira before falling to MIT in five sets.

Jacoby had 63 kills and a .362 hitting percentage in 16 sets played. He had a 3.94 kills per set average to go along with his 1.93 digs per set and 70 total points for the tournament.

 

 

 

Week 7 - March 4, 2013

Connor Wexter, Setter
Carthage College

Carthage junior setter Connor Wexter (New Lenox, Ill. / Lincoln-Way Central) receives the Continental Volleyball Conference player week for March 3. At the Lindenwood Invitational, Wexter was instrumental in leading the Red Men to a 2-1 finish.

Wexter and the Red Men tallied a three-set win over Fontbonne on Sunday March 3, bringing them to a 3-1 finish for the weekend. In 13 sets, Wexter had 142 assists, for a 10.92 assists per set average. He added 31 digs, 5 kills, 3 total blocks and 7 points to his weekly totals.

 
 
 
 
 
 
Week 8 - March 14, 2013

Eastern Division Player of the Week

Dante McCoy, Opposite Hitter
Thiel College

Thiel senior Dante McCoy earned the Eastern Division Player of the Week for his high level success during the CVC East Challenge weekend. McCoy  led the Tomcats in a four-set victory over nationally ranked Stevenson. In the match against the Mustangs, he hammered out 12 kills and 17 digs  in the match. In a tough five-set loss to Cairn, McCoy had 20 kills and a .333 hitting percentage while collecting nine digs. On the weekend, Jones tallied 45 kills (3.75 kps), and led Thiel to a 2-1 record.   McCoy coveted two service aces, 6.5 total blocks and 50.5 points at the CVC East Challenge weekend. 

 

 

 

 

Western Division Player of the Week

Connor Wexter, Setter
Carthage College
 

Carthage junior setter Connor Wexter receives the honor for his outstanding performance at the CVC West Challenge weekend. Wexter and the Red Men went 3-0 for the weekend including a five set barn burner with UC Santa Cruz in which he led Carthage to a 25-18, 23-25, 27-25, 21-25, 20-18 victory.

In the match, Wexter tallied 71 assists and 14 digs in the win over the #5 Banana Slugs. In ten sets, Wexter had 133 assists, for a 13.30 assists per set average. He added 30 digs, 8 kills, 5 total blocks and 11.5 points to his weekly totals.

  

 

 

 

Week 9 - March 18, 2013

Dylan Lasher, Outside Hitter
Thiel College

Thiel outside hitter Dylan Lasher (Ford City, Pa./Elderton) receives the Continental Volleyball Conference player week for March 18. Lasher hit .333 (13 kills, 2 errors, 33 attempts), 4.33 kills per game, 10 digs and had 13 total points on the Tomcats way to a three-set victory over the Fontbonne Griffins on Sunday. Lasher totaled 33 kills, 37 digs, 7 blocks and 39 points for the weekend. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Week 11 - April 4, 2013

Michael Whitelock, Middle Hitter
Thiel College 

Thiel sophomore middle hitter Michael Whitelock (So., MH - Pittsburgh, PA./Schenley) receives the Continental Volleyball Conference player week for March 31.

In a four set upset of nationally ranked Juniata, Whitelock had 13 kills on 20 attempts with only four errors. He hit .450 averaging 3.25 kills per set. Thiel was 3-0 on the week, including straight set victories over Keuka and Hilbert. During the week, Whitelock amassed 20 kills and hitting .412 (20-6-34) in ten sets played. He added ten digs, seven blocks and 26 points to his totals for the week.
