2014 CVC Player of the Week

Week 12 - April 7, 2014
Connor Wexter
Carthage College

Wexter, a senior from New Lenox, Ill., is the CVC Player of the Week for the second consecutive week. Wexter helped the #4 ranked Red Men to a pair of conference wins last week while capturing the top seed in the West Division for the upcoming CVC Tournament. Wexter tallied 41 assists in a three set sweep over #12 ranked Lakeland, adding three service aces and three total blocks. He then followed with 55 assists in a 3-1 win over Fontbonne, adding 11 digs. On the week Wexter averaged 13.71 assists per set.

Week 11 - March 31, 2014
Connor Wexter
Carthage College

Wexter, a senior setter from New Lenox, Ill., is this week's CVC Player of the Week. Wexter, the reigning CVC Player of the Year, helped the #4 ranked Redmen to a pair of wins last week including a 3-0 win over #6 ranked UC Santa Cruz. Wexter tallied 42 assists in the three set sweep over UC Santa Cruz, adding three total blocks and two digs. He upped that in his next outing with 52 assists in a 3-1 win over Dominican in which he added three kills and 10 digs. On the week Wexter averaged 13.43 assists per set while adding 12 digs and eight total blocks.

Week 10 - March 24, 2014
Mark Feiler
Juniata College

This week's Continental Volleyball Conference Player of the Week is Juniata College's Mark Feiler. Feiler, a junior outside hitter from Mountville, Pa., helped the top ranked Eagles to a perfect 2-0 record on the week with wins over conference foes Eastern Mennonite University and Marymount University. Feiler averaged 3.2 kills per set and hit .370 on the week. He picked up 10 kills and eight digs in the win over Marymount and added six kills and and three service aces in the win over Eastern Mennonite. On the week Feiler finished with 16 kills in 27 attempts and added 11 digs, three service aces and one total block.

Week 9 - March 17, 2014
Alec Redlich
Lakeland College

Alec Redlich, a junior from Wauwatosa, Wis., is this week's Continental Volleyball Conference Player of the Week after helping the Muskies to a perfect 3-0 conference record. Redlich notched double digits in kills in all three matches, averaging 5.2 kills per set. He started the week with 19 kills in a three set sweep over Dominican, adding nine digs and three total blocks. Redlich followed with 14 kills, while hitting .435, against Fontbonne in another sweep. He closed the week with 19 kills on just 39 swings while adding 11 digs in a win over Mount St. Joseph. On the week Redlich hit .353 with 52 kills and just 16 errors. He averaged 5.2 kills, 2.3 digs and 0.5 blocks per set while totaling 58 points.

Week 8 - March 10, 2014
Alex Coyne, Setter
Dominican University

Alex Coyne, a setter from Dominican, is this week's CVC Player of the Week. Coyne averaged 10.93 assists in four matche last week, including a pair of wins. Coyne had a high of 40 assists against Stevens and finished the week with a total of 153 assists. He added 12 kills, 12 total blocks and 19 digs on the week.

Alex McColgin, Right Side Hitter

Juniata College

Alex McColgin, a junior right side hitter from Buffalo, N.Y., is this week's CVC Player of the Week. McColgin led the #2 ranked team to three wins last week as he recorded double digit kills in all four matches. McColgin twice recorded 12 kills and twice recorded 13 kills during last week's action, finishing with a total of 50 kills. He averaged 3.85 kills per set and hit .276 on the week. In addition McColgin added 14 digs, including 11 in his team's match against Thiel; along with 11 total blocks.

Luke Eschenbach, Setter

College of Mount St. Joseph

This week's Continental Volleyball Conference Player of the Week is Luke Eschenbach, a setter from Cincinnati, Ohio. Eschenbach had a record setting performance last week in recording 123 assists in just two matches. Against Eastern Mennonite he recorded 60 assists in a 3-2 win, adding 11 digs and one service ace. He followed with 63 assists in a close five set loss to Thiel, adding 14 digs and two service aces. Eschenbach finished the week averaging 12.3 assists per set and currently leads the CVC in assists per set.Week 5 - February 17, 2014

Aaron Graue, Outside Hitter
Fontbonne University

Aaron Graue is this week's Continental Volleyball Conference Player of the Week. Graue, a junior outside hitter from St. Louis, Mo., helped the Griffins to a perfect 6-0 record over the weekend. He recorded double digit kills in all six matches including three matches with at least 18 kills. Graue's top performance of the week was against Sarah Lawrence when he registered 20 kills on just 23 attempts. Graue finished the week with 96 kills, averaging 4.8 per set, with a .371 hitting percentage. Graue also averaged 2.1 digs per set while recording 14 service aces.

Week 4 - February 10, 2014
Charlie Spry, Right Side Hitter

Dominican University

Charlie Spry is this week's Continental Volleyball Conference Player of the Week. Spry, a freshman right side hitter from Barrington, Ill., helped the Stars go a perfect 3-0 this past weekend in the CVC Crossover Tournament. Spry's best performance of the week was against Cairn when he tallied 19 kills, while hitting .514, and adding two total blocks. Spry followed with five kills and four digs against Marymount before closing the week with 15 kills, seven digs and four blocks against #15 ranked Thiel. On the week Spry averaged 3.9 kills, 1.2 digs and 0.7 blocks per set while hitting .312 with
a total of 39 kills.

Week 3 - February 3, 2014
Michael Whitelock, Middle Hitter
Thiel College

Whitelock, a junior middle hitter from Pittsburgh, Pa., is this week's Continental Volleyball Player of the Week. Whitelock helped Thiel to a pair of wins last week including a win over #13 ranked Elmira College. In that match Whitelock registered eight kills and two total blocks as Thiel edged out their nationally ranked opponent 3-2. Whitelock's top performance of the week was against Nazareth when he finished with 10 kills in just 17 attempts, hitting .529, while adding two blocks. Whitelock finished the week with an eight kill, six block match against Hilbert and a seven kill, four block effort against Carthage. On the week Whitelock averaged 2.06 kills, hitting .418, with 14 total blocks and two service aces.

Week 2 - January 27, 2014
Alex Vohland, Outside Hitter

College of Mount St. Joseph

This week's CVC Player of the Week is Alex Vohland, a freshman outside hitter from West Chester, Ohio. Vohland powered the Lions to a pair of wins last weekend to help get his team back to .500 overall on the season. In a 3-2 win over McKendree Vohland was effective at both of ends of the court. He registered 18 kills and added a team-high 13 digs. Vohland also chipped in 4 total blocks in the match. He followed that performance with a 20 kill, eight dig effort against Dominican. In the match Vohland finished with just two attack errrors and hit .562. On the week Vohland averaged 4.75 kills and 2.62 digs per set while hitting .351. He finished the week with a total of 38 kills, 21 digs and six total blocks; averaging 5.2 points per set.

Paul Kuhn, Outside Hitter

Juniata College

The first Player of the Week award for the 2014 Continental Volleyball Conference goes to Paul Kuhn, a junior from Juniata College. Kuhn, an outside hitter out of York, Pa., helped the AVCA preseason's #3 ranked team open with the season with an undefeated weekend. Kuhn saw action in just one of the weekend's matches but made the most of it, recording a career high 20 kills. Facing Rutgers-Newark Kuhn pounded out 20 kills on 36 swings with just four attack errors for a hitting percentage of .444. He added three service aces and seven digs with four total blocks. Kuhn averaged 6.2 points per set and finished the match with 25 total points.
