AROUND THE CVC

Just two weekends remain for the 2017 regular season and the Crusaders will close it out with three home matches over the next week. The Crusaders will host Thiel on Friday before embarking on a road swing to Langhorne, Pa. to face Marymount and Cairn on Saturday. Alvernia returns home for matches against Stevenson and Juniata next week before ending their season on the road at Vassar.
This weekend marks the final home matches of the season for the Cairn Highlanders. Cairn will host Eastern Mennonite on Friday at 7 p.m. and then take on Marymount and Alvernia on Saturday. Cairn's Ryan Ludvik is leading the conference in digs this season with 248, averaging 3.10 per set.
Tuesday night started a five-match road stretch for Eastern Mennonite to wrap up the regular season. The Royals are 19-8 overall and 8-3 in the CVC this season. They will close out this week's play with matches against Cairn, on Friday, and Rutgers-Newark, on Saturday. Eastern Mennonite is ranked #11 in the latest AVCA poll.
After falling out of the AVCA poll for the first time this season, Juniata responded by sweeping ranked conference opponent Eastern Mennonite on Tuesday night. The Eagles hit .232 with 13 blocks in the match as Quinn Peterson led the way with 15 kills. Juniata wraps up their week this Friday when they travel to Stevenson.
Marymount moved up to #9 in this week's AVCA poll and sit atop the CVC standings at 9-1. The Saints have a big week of matches as they face road matches against Stevenson, on Wednesday, and Rutgers-Newark, on Friday. Marymount is 15-7 overall this season and are led by three-time CVC Player of the Week, TJ Wiechecki who has 337 kills this season.
Rutgers-Newark is chasing the final spot in the CVC Tournament. The Scarlet Raiders are 5-5 in conference play, two games out of the fourth and final spot. Rutgers-Newark chase includes matches against Marymount and Eastern Mennonite this weekend.
Stevenson has put together a three-match winning streak and will put that on the line this week with home matches against Marymount, Juniata, and Thiel this week. The Mustangs are 16-8 overall this season and in second place in the CVC standings with a 7-2 mark.
Thiel notched their seventh win of the season on Tuesday night, edging out Penn State-Altoona 3-2. The Tomcats rallied back from a 2-1 set deficit, finishing the match hitting .325. Mitchell Patterson led the way with 24 kills and 11 digs. The Tomcats close out this weekend with road matches against Alvernia and Stevenson.
