Alvernia will wrap up its inaugural season with three matches this week. The Crusaders will face CVC foe Juniata in their final conference match of the 2017 season on Wednesday night at home. Alvernia will be on the road for their final two matches on Saturday when they face Vassar and Hunter. Alvernia freshman Ralph Lunati leads the team with 224 kills this season.
Cairn wraps up their 2017 season with a pair of road conference matches this weekend when they face Thiel and Juniata. Cairn will face Thiel on Friday and end their season on Saturday against Juniata. The Highlanders were swept by both teams earlier this season. Sophomore Ryan Ludvik leads the conference with 302 digs while junior Andy Willits is fourth in the conference with 288 total kills.
Eastern Mennonite secured a spot in the CVC Tournament last week, marking the first time the program will playing in the conference tournament. The Royals are 20-9 overall and 9-4 in conference play with a match against Stevenson on Saturday to wrap up league action. Their seeding is still up in the air. In addition, the Royals are ranked #14 in the latest AVCA poll.
Juniata has won three consecutive matches and five of their last six as they are looking to secure the final spot in the CVC Tournament. The Eagles need just one more win to secure that spot and will have three chances this week to do so. They are on the road against Alvernia on Wednesday night and will close out their regular season at home this weekend with matches against Rutgers-Newark and Cairn.
Marymount moved up one spot in the AVCA poll to #8 this week. At 19-7 overall and 13-1 in conference play the Saints have clinched the top seed in the upcoming CVC Tournament. Marymount will play a pair of non-conference matches this weekend when they face Stevens and Southern Virginia on Saturday. The CVC Tournament will be hosted by Marymount on April 14-15.
Rutgers-Newark is 12-15 overall and 6-6 in the CVC but need help if they are to make the tournament this year. The Scarlet Raiders will need to win their final two conference matches, against Juniata and Thiel, and need Juniata to drop their final three before entering into tiebreaker scenarios.
Stevenson became the third team to secure a postseason berth into the CVC Tournament with their win over Alvernia on Tuesday. The Mustangs are 18-10 overall and have three more matches this week. They will face Arcadia on Thursday before hosting Eastern Mennonite and Penn State-Altoona on Saturday to close out their season.
At 9-15 this season Thiel has already surpassed their win total from last year and with one more win, they can reach double digits for the year. The Tomcats will have two opportunities this week to reach that mark when they host Cairn on Friday and Rutgers-Newark on Saturday. Regan Hess has totaled 161 kills this season and ranks 5th in the CVC with a .330 hitting percentage.
