During a banquet to open the NCAA Tournament Final Four, Christian Sheaffer of the Southern Virginia University men's volleyball team was revealed as the AVCA Men's Division lll National Player of the Year.
Sheaffer has rattled off consecutive historic seasons in a Knights uniform. With a superb all-around skill set, he's become the best player in the country. Not only does he rack up kills, but he's also one of the most efficient attackers in the country, boasting a .433 hitting percentage, which ranks eighth in all of Division lll.
He's also second in the country in aces per set and has 64 aces this season, a program record. Sheaffer has served as an underrated passer and has shined on the defensive end, particularly in the last two seasons. His 24 block solos and 66 block assists land him 19th in the country in total blocks this season.
While rich in individual accolades, Sheaffer will look to lead his team to the ultimate prize of a national championship this weekend. Tomorrow, April 25th, at 5:00 PM, the Knights will battle with Juniata College in the national semifinal.
