CVC Tournament Preview

The 2025 CVC Tournament begins on Tuesday with quarterfinal matches before moving to Washington and Lee University for the semifinal and championship matches on the weekend. Ticket prices for the semifinals and championship are $6 per day or $10 for a tournament pass. Students with a valid CVC member school ID and children under the age of 5 are free. 

Southern Virginia will be the tournament's top seed for the third straight year after recording its second straight undefeated conference season. The Knights are 28-1 overall and went 7-0 against conference opponents this season, sweeping all seven matches. The Knights are the league's top-hitting team (.379) and have recorded a conference-high 227 aces. Reigning CVC Player of the Year Christian Sheaffer leads the attack. They are looking for a second straight CVC title and fourth in program history.

Juniata College earned the #2 seed after finishing 28-3 overall in the regular season and going 6-1 in the conference. The Eagles are hitting .333 as a team and ranked 1st in the conference in blocks with 210. The Eagles will go as far as Tyler Goldsborough and Luke Hoffman take them. The program has won four CVC Championships with its last coming in 2023.

This year's #3 seed is Rutgers University-Newark. The Scarlet Raiders went 21-8 overall during the regular season and finished 5-2 in the CVC. The Scarlet Raiders offense can get on a roll, averaging 12.03 kills per set but hitting just .226 as a team. They have also recorded 194 service aces this season. Aleks Kolodziej leads the team with 253 kills this season, ranking 5th in the conference while Derek Au is second in assists. Rutgers-Newark has two CVC titles in program history with the last coming in 2022.

Kean University is the #4 seed in the tournament after finishing 13-11 overall and 3-4 in conference action, winning a tiebreaker to claim the higher seed. Kean has focused on its defense this year and keeping the ball in play, leading the league at 10.81 digs per set. Chris Mitchell has a career-high 290 kills this season to lead the team while Tyler Quinn ranks second in the league in digs per set. The Cougars won their only CVC Championship back in 2018.

Marymount University will be the #5 seed after going 10-17 overall and 3-4 in CVC play. The Saints are hitting .238 as a team, third-best in the conference, with Diego Pena leading the way with a team-high 284 kills. Marymount is making its 10th tournament appearance but are still looking for their first title.

First-year conference member Drew University claimed the tournament's final spot. The Rangers went 6-24 overall and 2-5 in conference play, advancing to the post-season via tiebreaker. They are hitting .167 as a team and have 184 total blocks and 110 service aces this season. The Rangers have a balanced attack with four players over 130 kills this season.
