Southern Virginia and Juniata to Meet For 2019 CVC Title

Southern Virginia University and Juniata College will meet for the 2019 Continental Volleyball Conference tournament title on Saturday after their semifinal wins tonight. The 2019 CVC Championship match will be held at Rockbridge High School in Lexington, Va. at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 13. 

#1 Southern Virginia vs. #4 Marymount - BOX SCORE
Making their CVC Tournament debut the top-seeded, and host, Southern Virginia moved past #4 seed Marymount in a five-set thriller; winning 19-25, 25-22, 20-25, 25-20, 15-8. Marymount came out firing, hitting .435 in the opening set with 12 kills and just two errors on 23 swings. The Knights rebounded by taking the second set with a powerful barrage of their own, hitting .481 in the set with 17 kills on 27 swings. The two teams rotated wins in the first four sets, setting up the winner moves on fifth set. With the score at 4-3 in the fifth set the Knights went on a 7-1 run to take control before cruising to at 15-8 fifth set victory. Sam Safley had a team-high 17 kills for Marymount while Nahuel Recabarren put down 27 kills. 

2 Kean vs. #3 Juniata - BOX SCORE
Juniata College outlasted Kean University for a 3-0 win in the second semifinals match of the evening. The match was much closer than the straight set sweep may appear with all three sets within no more than three points difference. Juniata edged out the #7 nationally ranked Cougars 28-26, 25-23, and 25-22 to their fourth championship match appearance. Juniata hit an impressive .368 in the match with Quinn Peterson leading the attack with 19 kills. Kean hit .270 as a team with Kamil Garbowski finishing with a team-high 15 kills.  

What is Next
Southern Virginia, the top-seeded team in the tournament, will face #3 seed Juniata in the 2019 CVC Championship match. Juniata has three CVC Tournament titles while Southern Virginia is making their first CVC Championship match appearance in just the second year with the league.
