AROUND THE CVC

Cairn will look to close out the season on a high note. The Highlanders are 5-13 overall and are coming off a 3-1 win over Lancaster Bible last week. The Highlanders are on the road this weekend to close out their regular season, facing Thiel on Friday and Juniata on Saturday. Cairn will be looking to secure their first conference win of the season. Ryan Ludvik leads Cairn and the CVC in digs per set with 2.62 while Micah Godshall leads the conference at 0.63 service aces per set.

Eastern Mennonite is in the battle for the final spot into the CVC Tournament. The Royals are 12-11 overall but have won three straight matches to close in on that final spot. They are set to face Stevenson on Wednesday night in their regular season finale and currently have a half game lead over Juniata for fourth place in the standings.
Juniata sits at 8-14 overall this season and 4-6 in CVC play. The Eagles are a half game out of the final spot in the CVC Tournament and will face Rutgers-Newark and Cairn to close out regular season conference play. But before those weekend matches Juniata will host Penn State-Altoona on Wednesday night in a non-conference match.
Despite falling to #7 ranked Stevenson last weekend, Marymount has caught the eyes of voters in the AVCA poll. The Saints were one of three teams receiving votes outside the top 15 in this week's poll. Marymount is 17-9 overall and have clinched a spot in the 2016 CVC Tournament. They will prepare for the tournament with three matches this weekend; facing NYU, CCNY, and Bard.
Rutgers-Newark picked up a 3-1 win over #13 NYU on Tuesday night, winning 25-22, 16-25, 25-18, 25-20. The Scarlet Raiders hit .343 in the match with Jack Fredricks tallying 18 kills. Cody Chidsey passed the 1,000 point mark for his career while Kevin McCandless finished with 43 assists. Rutgers-Newark improves to 21-2 overall and are now 5-1 against ranked teams this season. They close out the regular season with matches against Juniata and Thiel this weekend.
Stevenson can clinch a CVC regular season title with a win over Eastern Mennonite on Wednesday night. The win would also give the Mustangs hosting rights to the 2016 CVC Tournament, which will be held April 8-9. Stevenson, ranked #7 in the latest AVCA poll, defeated the Royals 3-0 earlier this season. You can watch the match on streaming video HERE
Thiel has won two of their last three matches and are now 3-14 overall this season. The Tomcats will host Cairn and Rutgers-Newark this weekend as they close out their 2016 season. The Tomcats defated Cairn 3-0 earlier this season for their only conference win of the year and fell to the Scarlet Raiders 3-0 in their previous meeting. Thiel's Cody Patterson has been one of the top hitters in the CVC this season, averaging 3.37 kills per set.
