Thiel men's volleyball team wins final tune-up before CVC Tournament

AURORA, N.Y. – The Thiel men's volleyball team (20-11) won its 20th match of the season with a 3-0 sweep of the Hilbert College Hawks (25-10, 25-18, 25-21) on Tuesday.

The Tomcats were led Michael Whitelock (Pittsburgh, Pa./Schenley) and Alex Ciepiela (Marilla, N.Y./Iroquios Central) who finished with nine and eight kills, respectively, in the win. Charlie Tindall (Tarentum, Pa./Deer Lakes) and Corey Hamilton (Meadville, Pa./Maplewood) split the setting duties almost evenly, as Tindall registered 18 assists and Hamilton added 17.

Defensively, Ian Phillips (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) posted a team-best six digs.

The Tomcats sweep the season series from the Hawks, as they won all three meetings between the two teams without dropping a set.

The match marks the final tune-up for Thiel before the Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) tournament. The Tomcats, who are the #3 seed in the east division, will take on Carthage College at 5 p.m on Friday. Ticket price for the tournament is $5.
