HUNTINGDON, PA. – The #6 Juniata men's volleyball team scooped up two wins after defeated Nichols 3-0 (25-11, I 25-23, 25-19) and Wittenberg 3-2 (23-25, 25-15, 25-21, 25-20, 15-7) Friday evening.
Juniata opened the match against Nichols with an early 7-1 run that gave Juniata some cushion. The Eagles maintained the lead most of the set, and closed set one on a 6-0 run to claim the first set 25-11.
The Eagles recovered from an early 1-4 hole and later used a 5-1 sprint to retake the lead at 18-14. JC eventually went on to take set two, 25-23, on a Chase Robbins kill.
Juniata hit a robust .552 and used a late 7-2 run to end the match.
In the second match, the Tigers hit .542 and held Juniata off to take set one, 23-25.
The second set featured a 7-1 run from the Eagles midway through the set and the Eagles never looked back as they cruised to a 25-15 win in set two.
The Eagles, leading 9-7 in set three, went on a 6-1 run that was capped by a Juan Armando kill. The Tigers got back within two, 23-21, before a Luke Hoffman kill and a Tyler Goldsborough block ended set three, 25-21.
The Tigers hit .500 in set four as they extended the match with a 20-25 win in set four.
A 9-2 sprint out the gates in set five put the Eagles in the driver seat in the decisive set as they led 10-3. A block by Chris Mellor and Robbins ended the match.
Juniata returns to action to take on Arcadia and St. John Fisher at 1:00 and 3:00.
