#12 Men’s Volleyball Battles #5 Juniata in Second Round of NCAA Tournament
Leopards stay neck-and-neck with Eagles but fall in straight sets; Mason Andrade leads with team-high nine kills
HOBOKEN, N.J. – In a tightly contested three-set battle, the No. 12-ranked Wentworth Institute of Technology men's volleyball team fell short to the Juniata Eagles in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday night.
On the heels of their fourth straight Great Northeast Athletic Conference championship, the Leopards made their fifth straight and seventh overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament tonight.
The Black & Gold's 2025 campaign concludes with a 26-7 overall mark. The Eagles head to the quarterfinal round with a 30-4 overall mark.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Eagles climbed out to a 6-3 lead in the first set before a finish by Nicolai Bell later on marked a 10-8 deficit. Back-to-back kills by Andrew Ahn and Alem Dubcak kept Wentworth's deficit at two at 14-12 before Juniata pulled away with a 20-14 advantage. Kills by Ahn and Jacob Waga helped keep the deficit tight at 23-18 before the Eagles later held on for a 25-20 set win.
- Two kills by Waga and another by Mason Andrade set the Leopards out to a 6-3 lead in the second frame before Juniata rallied to take a 7-6 edge. Another putaway by Andrade marked a 9-7 lead for the Black & Gold before a kill by Waga later kickstarted a run in which Wentworth would grab hold of a 17-14 lead. The Eagles came back to tie at 17-all before a kill by Andrade marked a draw at 20 aside. Juniata took a 23-20 lead, only to be battled back and clawed at with a 24-23 score later on, before holding on for a 25-23 set win.
- After the Eagles took 5-3 and 6-4 leads in the third set, a kill by Andrade helped knot the score at nine aside before a finish by Bell later on marked an 11-all score. The two teams swapped scores, featuring a kill by Ian Babcock to mark a 16-15 deficit, before Juniata pulled away at 19-16 and 22-18 leads. Two aces by Andrade clawed Wentworth back at 22-21 while a finish by Conner Foxwell marked a one-point gap at 24-23. However, the Eagles held on for another 25-23 set win.
NOTEWORTHY:
- With his 127th career appearance on the court tonight, Tyler Jack has now played the most matches all-time in program history.
SERIES NOTES:
- Tonight marked the fifth all-time meeting between the two teams and first since 2023.
