HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The #6 Juniata men's volleyball team won twice on Saturday as they swept Arcadia 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-14) and St. John Fisher 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-13) on day two of the Eagle Invite.
Nathanael Brown led the way with 12 kills (.611), six digs, and an assist, while Gavin Corrado totaled eight kills (.727) and a block assist. Will Sierer had 24 assists, an ace, and a dig.
The Juniata offense clicked from the beginning as they hit .556 in the first set. The Eagles closed the set on a 5-1 run as Brown ended the set with a kill, 25-18.
The Knights held a 5-8 lead in the second set before the Eagles ripped off a 16-3, putting them in total control at 18-11. Corrado ended set two with a kill 25-16.
The Eagles led 8-3 in set three and cruised to their first win on the day as Corrado ended the match with his eighth kill.
Against St. John Fisher, Tyler Goldsborough had 13 kills (.733) with two aces, an assist, a dig, and a solo block. Luke Hoffman tallied 11 kills (.769), an ace, a dig, and two blocks. Chris Mellor added seven kills and was a perfect seven for seven. Grant Lorelli had 17 assists, while Sierer had 14 as the Eagle attack hit .566.
With the score at 10-7 early in the first set, Juniata ran off eight of the following nine points to build a 16-8 lead. JC eventually took set one on a Cardinal attack error.
The Cardinals pushed the Eagles in the second set. The visitors led at various points and pulled even at 18-18. The Eagles shut the door from there, taking seven of the next nine, and a Mellor block ended set two.
Juniata hit .643 as they dominated the final set with a 16-6 stretch, ending the match as Hoffman put a bow on the day with a kill.
The Eagles will host Kean on Friday at 7:00.
