Knights Win Showdown Against Eagles

Friday night pitted Southern Virginia University against Juniata College in a CVC showdown. The two teams entered the match with top ten national rankings with the Knights coming in having not dropped a set all season long and the Eagles winning 13 straight matches. At the end of the night it was Southern Virginia with the edge, winning 3-1 to improve to 21-0 on the season. 

The two teams kept it close throughout the match with the Eagles taking the opening set 25-22. Juniata came out firing away, hitting a match high .346 in the set. Southern Virginia drew even by winning the second set 31-29. The score was tied at 29-29 when the Knights benefited from a service error to get serve back and then closed out the set on a kill from Christian Sheaffer. 

The Knights would close out the match by winning the next two sets; 25-21 and 25-23 to remain undefeated in conference play. Southern Virginia hit .233 in the match while Juniata hit .165. The Knights picked up their net defense as the match went on, recording 14 team blocks.

Christian Sheaffer led the way with 23 kills and eight block assists while Tyelr Sheaffer handed out 43 assists. Juniata was led by Tyler Goldsborough with 16 kills. 

Southern Virginia returns to action with another conference match when they host Elizabethtown College on Saturday. Juniata returns to action against Roanoke on Saturday.
