Duffy, Sheaffer, Zaleck Headline CVC All-America Honors

2023 AVCA ALL-AMERICA TEAMS

Kevin Duffy III, Christian Sheaffer, and Andrew Zaleck are among the five players from the Continental Volleyball Conference that earned 2023 All-America honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association. The trio were each named to the First Team and joined by Luke Hoffman and Tyler Sheaffer who both were named Honorable Mention All-American. 

Duffy III, a middle blocker from Juniata College, hit .453 this season while ranking 1st in the league in total blocks with 108 and blocks per set at 1.09. He totaled 296 points and ranks 4th in NCAA Division III in hitting percentage and 6th in blocks per set. This is the fourth time in his career he has earned All-America honors; the second as a First Team selection. His teammate, Luke Hoffman finished 2nd in the league with a .442 hitting percentage and 84 blocks. He also tallied 40 aces and 285.5 points and ranks 5th in the nation in hitting percentage. 

Southern Virginia University also had two players earn recognition; Christian Sheaffer and Tyler Sheaffer. Christian becomes just the third player in program history to receive First Team honors. A sophomore outside hitter, he averaged 3.96 kills per set; ranking him 8th in Division III. He finished with 301 kills and 40 aces, totaling 370.5 total points. His brother Tyler, a setter, led the CVC with 10.01 assists per set; setting a new program record and ranking him 5th in the nation. 

Andrew Zaleck, an outside hitter for Rutgers University-Newark, was selected First Team All-America for the second consecutive season and fourth overall All-American honor. The senior became the program's all-time leader in kills and finished the season with a season record 360 kills, averaging 4.56 per set, and ranked 4th in the nation at 5.28 points per set.
