Seven Named AVCA All-Region

The Continental Volleyball Conference placed seven players, half of the team, on the 2020 American Volleyball Coaches Association East All-Region Team. Seven players, from five different CVC schools, including two from both Juniata College and Rutgers University-Newark, were recognized by the national organization.

Nahuel Recabarren earned All-Region honors and was named the AVCA East Region Player of the Year. The junior outside hitter led the Knights offensively on the season with a team-high 161 kills (3.35 kills per set) on 337 total attempts earning him a .306 hitting average and is now second all-time in kills in program history with 736. Recabarren recorded double-digit kills in ten out of the 14 matches this season while also placing fifth in the CVC in kills per set (3.35) and hitting percentage (.306). 

Rutgers-Newark's Justin Tuohy and Andrew Zaleck were both named All-Region while Zaleck and head coach Jack Wilson picked up additional individual honors. Zaleck was named the AVCA East Newcomer of the Year after leading the team with 188 kills good for 4.48 kills per set which were second in the CVC and fifth in the nation. He hit .285 on the year and tallied 13 service aces. In his first season as head coach of the Scarlet Raiders was named the AVCA East Region Coach of the Year. He led the team to a 17-1 record in 2020, their best start in program history. 

Juniata College placed two players on the All-Region team in Robert Bowling and Kevin Duffy. Bowling tallied 201 kills from the right side that saw him finish fourth in the conference. He also was fourth in the CVC in points (236.5), averaged 3.24 kills per set, and was eighth in service aces (20). Duffy earned All-Region honors after ranking sixth in the country in hitting percentage (.420), which is the best in the CVC. He totaled 151 kills, averaging 2.19 per set, and 191 points with 52 total blocks this season.

Sam Safley, from Marymount University, earned All-Region honors after leading the conference with 286 kills on the year while averaging 4.09 kills per set and a .280 hitting percentage. He finished third on the team with 20 service aces and 25 total blocks, while tallying 72 digs. He led the Saints with 322 points and 4.6 points per set.

Kean University's Jared Ray earned his All-East Region selection after totaling 254 points, 229 kills, 91 digs, 25 blocks and 10 aces over 16 matches. He averaged 4.88 points per set, 4.40 kills per set, 1.75 digs per set, 0.48 blocks per set and a .302 hitting percentage.
