Ian Capp leads the list of All-Conference honorees for the Continental Volleyball Conference, taking home both Player of the Year and Setter of the Year honors. He is joined by Daniel Aina, Arvind Kumar, and Tom Peterson in receiving top individual honors from the league for the 2019 season.
Capp, a junior from Mechanicsburg, Pa., led Kean University to a 22-6 overall record this season and a current #4 ranking in the American Volleyball Coaches Association national poll. Capp, a setter, was the engine of an attack that hit .342 during conference matches this season. He averaged 6.57 assists per set, totaling 184 assists in his 10 CVC matches. Capp also chipped in 60 kills, hitting .463, and added 1.54 digs per set. Capp was just as dangerous running the offense at the net as he was serving, leading the league with 31 service aces. In addition to being named the CVC Player of the Year, this is his second straight year being named the CVC Setter of the Year and earning First Team All-Conference honors.
Rutgers University-Newark outside hitter Arvind Kumar was picked as the CVC Rookie of the Year. The freshman from Manahawkin, N.J., jumped right into the lineup for the Scarlet Raiders, playing in all 11 conference matches in his first collegiate season. He finished with 97 kills, hitting .237, with 54 digs and 16 service aces. Kumar averaged 2.85 kills, ranking 8th in the CVC. He totaled 118 points against conference opponents, placing him 7th overall.
Daniel Aina was the anchor of the Southern Virginia defense and was selected as the CVC Libero of the Year. Aina, a senior from Hilo, Hawaii, totaled 85 digs in 11 CVC matches this season, averaging 2.30 per set. Overall this year he finished with 10 double-digit dig matches and ranked in the top five in both digs and digs per set.
Tom Peterson was chosen as the 2019 CVC Coach of the Year after leading Southern Virginia University to a 21-3 regular season record. In just the third year of the program's history Coach Peterson led the Knights to a perfect 11-0 CVC record, becoming just the third school in conference history to go undefeated in conference play. The Knights are currently ranked #8 in the latest AVCA national poll and will be the top seed in the 2019 CVC Tournament.
