The 2018 Continental Volleyball Conference All-Conference Teams has been announced with Micah Buller, Ian Capp, Charlie Ginex, Quinn Peterson, and Nahuel Recabarren taking home top individual honors. In addition, this marks the first time in conference history the league has recognized two All-Conference teams; previously there has been either one team or a team from each division.
Quinn Peterson takes home the top individual award in the CVC as the 2018 Player of the Year. Peterson, a junior from Juniata College, was one of the more dangerous hitters in the league this season; finishing with 170 kills during conference play, tops in the league. Overall this year he finished with 451 kills, the second most in conference single-season history, and averaged 3.99 kills per set. Peterson hit .238 against conference opponents and added 12 aces, 59 digs, and 25 total blocks. He reached double digits in kills in 23 matches this year, including in 11 of 13 conference matches, with a high of 26 against Lakeland.
This marks the first year that the conference has honored the top setter and top libero in the conference. The CVC Setter of the Year goes to Ian Capp, a sophomore, from Kean University. Capp finished conference play averaging 9.19 assists per set and totaled 806 assists overall this season while running a Cougar offense that finished first in the league with a .307 team hitting percentage. Capp topped 40 assists six times this season including a high of 52 against Dominican. He also led the conference in service aces with 69 and added 161 digs and 37 total blocks.
The conference's first-ever Libero of the Year award goes to Eastern Mennonite senior Micah Buller. Buller led all conference players with a 3.12 digs per set average, totaling 128 digs during conference action and 325 digs overall this season. He reached double figures in digs in 17 matches this spring with a high of 19 against Lancaster Bible.
The 2018 CVC Rookie of the Year goes to Nahuel Recabarren, an outside hitter from Southern Virginia. Recabarren finished second on the team in kills this season with 223 total, putting down 123 against conference foes. He raised his game when conference play started, averaging 3.51 kills per set with a .208 hitting percentage. He finished in the top 10 during conference play in kills, kills per set, solo blocks, points, and points per set.
The Coach of the Year award goes to Kean University's Charlie Ginex. Ginex guided the Cougars to a 31-2 record during the regular season, going 12-1 in the CVC, and capturing the league's regular-season title in their first year with the conference. The Cougars closed out the regular season on a 25 match winning streak and are currently ranked #4 in the nation.
