CVC On The Road: Juniata

Each week this season we will follow one Continental Volleyball Conference team as they head out on the road. This week's story is with Neumann University senior Pat Morgan. Pat took us through a week that including postponed matches and a non-conference road match against a nearby opponent.

"For our trip this weekend, we were scheduled to leave Juniata at 1 p.m., hoping to make it to Hiram early so we could check-in at the hotel, stop for dinner, and watch some of the match before ours. However, this did not go according to plan."

"We apparently had the wrong van reserved for us, receiving the keys to a 12-passenger van instead of the 15-passenger van that we normally take. For an hour and a half, we tried contacting our transportation department and our athletic director, seeing if we could get the keys to the other van or if it was possible to have someone else drive a school provided car so we could take our full 14-player travel roster."

"Finally, around 2:30 p.m. we had secured the 15-passenger van, packed our bags and snacks on the bus before we hit the road. The trip to Hiram was around 3 and a half hours from Juniata and instead of stopping like we had normally planned, we headed straight to the school. On the way, we had teammates watching movies, napping, listening to music, and completing school work."

"As we got closer to the school, we had prepared peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to hold us over until after the match. We arrived at the school around 6 p.nm. and it was time to get ready for the match ahead of us against Adrian. We went into the locker room, played music and got dressed as we started to get mentally focused."

"We won our first match in straight sets, allowing most of our reserves a chance to play. After our Friday night match, we headed to our hotel where we ate a variety of Domino's pizza's and watched the UConn vs Notre Dame women's basketball NCAA Final Four game and relaxed for the rest of the evening."

"On Saturday, we woke up and had breakfast in the hotel at8:45 a.m. before heading back to the school for our matches against Hiram and Illinois Tech. We won both matches in straight sets. After our matches, we got ready for our trip back home, stopping at Chipotle for a team dinner. Despite a minor setback at the beginning of the trip, overall it was a very successful weekend where everyone got the chance to perform in-game and took full advantage of it."
