AROUND THE CVC

The Alvernia men's volleyball will play their much anticipated first match in program history on Wednesday night when they face Lancaster Bible. The Crusaders program was officially added on November 11, 2015 and is coached by Deb Scholosser. Alvernia will play two more matches this weekend when they face Cairn and Arcadia on Saturday. Their first home match is set for February 10 against Eastern Mennonite in their conference opening match.
For the second straight weekend Cairn was busy playing four matches in just two days. The Highlanders dropped all four matches last weekend and are still searching for their first win of the 2017 season. They will get several chances this weekend to notch that win as they face Arcadia, Alvernia, Wilkes, and Lancaster Bible.
The Royals split a pair of matches last weekend, seeing their season record go to 2-2. They fell to King 3-1 but responded with a 3-0 sweep of Lancaster Bible. William Ragland led the Royals in the win with 11 kills while Travis Abele added 12 digs. Eastern Mennonite is back in action this weekend with matches against Nazareth, Kean, and Vassar.
After going 1-2 to open the season last weekend the Eagles remain ranked #15 in the latest AVCA poll. Juniata fans will get to see new head coach Glenn DeHaven on the sidelines for the first time time this weekend when the Eagles host Wittenberg, New Paltz State, and Wells through Friday and Saturday.
Marymount won both of their matches last weekend to improve to 3-1 overall and jump up into a tie for the 12th spot in the latest AVCA poll. This marks the first time in the programs four years they have been ranked in the poll. The Saints put their national ranking to the test when they host Marian, Elmira, and Mount St. Joseph this weekend.
Rutgers-Newark wasted no time in testing themselves this season, playing nationally ranked teams UC Santa Cruz and Stevens. The Scarlet Raiders dropped all four matches last weekend and look to find their first win this weekend when they are on the road against Southern Virginia and Lehman.
Stevenson went 2-2 in the season's opening weekend, defeating Wells and SUNY Poly. The Mustangs, tied for 12th in the AVCA poll, will play four home matches this weekend as they host Mount St. Joseph, Wilson, Marian, and Elmira.
Thiel dropped their first two matches of the 2017 season, falling in five sets in both outings. The Tomcats will look to break through this weekend when they face New Paltz State, Wells, and Wittenberg. Cody Patterson has led the Tomcats this year at 3.5 kills per set, ranking fourth in the conference.
