Porter Resigns As Royals Head Coach

Eastern Mennonite University has accepted the resignation of men's volleyball coach Dominick Porter. The resignation is effective December 1.

Porter recently completed his third season at the helm of the men's volleyball team, leading the Royals to a 38-36 record in his tenure. A former EMU player himself, Porter's teams steadily improved their standing in the Continental Volleyball Conference, narrowly missing the program's first-ever berth in the CVC Tournament this past spring.

Director of Athletics Dave King said, "I appreciate all that Dom has done for the men's volleyball program, first as an outstanding player, then returning as a coach. It has been a rewarding experience to watch Dom develop from player to coach. Dom has been an effective recruiter. And he has been a positive role model and mentor for his players."

Under Porter's leadership, the Royals not only saw an increase in competitiveness and roster size, but also in academic prowess. For the second year in a row, Eastern Mennonite put seven men on the CVC Academic All-Conference Team.

Porter said, "I have enjoyed my time at EMU both as a student athlete and a coach. Coaching here has given me an opportunity to give back to the university after receiving much during my years here as a student. I have enjoyed mentoring the young men. I regret leaving coaching but look forward to what the future holds for me."

King added that Porter will be missed.

"While I am disappointed that Dom will not be continuing his good work with the program, I wish him the best as he embarks on a new career. He will be missed," said King. "The search for his successor will begin immediately."
