Shorts Named ECAC Rookie of the Year

After helping guide the Stevenson men's volleyball team to its first-ever Continental Volleyball Conference title, freshman Landon Shorts was named the ECAC Division III Men's Volleyball Rookie of the Year announced on Thursday.

It is the second Rookie of the Year honor for Shorts who was named the CVC Rookie of the Year on April 13. Shorts was also a two-time conference player of the week.

Shorts, who was the lone freshman named to the CVC All-Conference Team, ranks second in the conference with 324 kills and fifth with 3.15 kills per set. He also ranks second with 50 service aces, a single season program record. Shorts has totaled at least 10 kills 18 times this season, including tying his career-best with 18 in the four-set win over Eastern Mennonite to clinch the top seed. In the CVC tournament, Shorts totaled 21 kills on 34 swings for a .529 hitting percentage.

The Mustangs will face No. 3 Carthage in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament, on Friday, April 22 beginning at 8:00 p.m. on the campus of Nazareth College.
