Juniata Withdraws From Postseason Play

Juniata College has announced the school will withdraw the men’s volleyball team from playing in all postseason competitions for disciplinary reasons. Juniata is currently the number one seed in the Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) and ranked fourth in NCAA Division III. They will not participate in the CVC or NCAA tournament after they complete the regular remainder of the season this weekend. The full press release by Juniata College can be viewed HERE

The announcement by the college, made Monday, March 30, comes during the last week of the regular season schedule. The Eagles will be removed from the CVC's standings for the conference tournament.

"The Continental Volleyball Conference is disappointed by the events that led to the cancellation of postseason play for the Juniata College men’s volleyball team, but fully supports the athletic department and Head Coach Patrick Shawaryn for their swift and decisive action," said CVC Commissioner Graeme Millar. “The men’s volleyball program at Juniata College has a tradition of success that was set to continue but by taking disciplinary steps to change the team culture they are following the core values of the NCAA. They are holding the student-athletes accountable for their actions and re-instilling integrity to their men’s volleyball program.”

"Our conference tournament will continue next week as planned, and while this decision has certainly altered our season, we're excited for another great weekend of competition."

The 2015 CVC Tournament, April 10-11, will be held at the site of the highest eligible conference member according to the regular season standings. The Continental Volleyball Conference is an NCAA Division III men's volleyball only conference consisting of seven members across four states. Formed in 2011 the CVC is a nation-wide conference focused on academic and athletic excellence.
