Group of Newcomers Sweep CVC Awards

A group of newcomers to the Continental Volleyball Conference swept the 2015 individual awards. Rutgers University-Newark, a new member to the league, took home Player and Coach of the Year while a freshman from Marymount University was named Rookie of the Year.

Cody Chidsey is the 2015 CVC Player of the Year. Chidsey, a junior from Bath, Pa., ranked in the top ten during conference play in kills, kills per set, hitting percentage, solo blocks, points, and points per set. He hit .441 overall and upped that to .509 during conference play; averaging 3.59 kills per set. Chidsey finished with 382 points this season, 191 during conference play. Chidsey finished with 16 double digit kill matches this season, including six straight matches at the end of the season as his team was chasing the CVC title.

Marymount University freshman T.J. Wiechecki is the 2015 CVC Rookie of the Year. Wiechecki, from Wilmington, Del., helped his team to their first CVC Tournament berth after leading his team in kills with 325 this season. He ranked 4th during conference play in kills per set with 3.47 and in points per set at 4.1. He recorded 17 double digit kill matches this season, including seven during conference play.

The 2015 CVC Coach of the Year award goes to Pedro Trevino, who is in his fifth year as head coach at Rutgers University-Newark. Trevino guided the Scarlet Raiders to an 11-1 record in conference play this year and recently won the 2015 CVC Tournament. The Scarlet Raiders are currently 21-8 overall, their first year competing at the Division III level, and are ranked #14 in the latest AVCA Division III Men's Volleyball Coaches Poll. Rutgers-Newark will face Endicott College in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Saturday, April 18.
