DANBURY, Conn. (May 6, 2015) – Junior middle hitter
Cody Chidsey of the Rutgers-Newark men's volleyball team raked in another honor Tuesday, earning a second-team All-Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference nod.
Chidsey was a second-team American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American after leading the Scarlet Raiders to the 'Elite Eight' of the 2015 Division III Men's Volleyball Championship.
The Bath, Pa. native ended 2015 ranked third nationally in hitting percentage (.444) and 32nd in the country in kills per set. Chidsey led Rutgers-Newark to the Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) title, earning CVC Player of the Year and first-team all-conference honors.
He paced the Scarlet Raiders in kills and hitting percentage, playing a major role in the team ranking eighth in the country in hitting percentage, ninth in kills per set and 12th in won-loss percentage.
The junior eclipsed double-digit kills 17 times this season, including 11 in the team's NCAA first round win over Endicott College in which he hit .588. From March 4-April 10, Chidsey hit at least .400 in 10-of-11 matches, averaging 15.4 kills per outing over that span.
Rutgers-Newark won the conference title by sweeping a pair of matches against Thiel College and Stevenson University. The Scarlet Raiders then went on to host the first round of the 2015 NCAA Championship, defeating Endicott in straight sets to advance to the national quarterfinals.
R-N finished the year with an overall record of 22-10 (11-1 CVC) and were ranked 12th in the final AVCA Coaches' Poll released on April 29.
