AROUND THE CVC

Cairn ended the 2015 season on a high note, picking up an exciting 3-2 win over Stevenson on Saturday. The Highlanders won the match 16-25, 31-29, 18-25, 25-22, and 15-11. Cairn hit just .199 as a team in the match but in the decisive fifth set finished with a .409 attack percentage. Josiah Buss finished as the team's leading attacker with 250 kills while Alex Lower recorded 811 assists this season and Matthew Rhodes added 202 digs.

Chasing a spot into the CVC Tournament the Eastern Mennonite team suffered a tough loss to Marymount on Tuesday night. The Royals fell 3-0 to the Saints, who are also battling for a spot into the tournament field. Eastern Mennonite is now 3-7 in conference play, a half game back of the final spot. The Royals play the top two teams in the CVC standings, Rutgers-Newark and Juniata, this weekend to close out conference action.
Juniata has a showdown against Rutgers-Newark on Wednesday evening, in a fight for the 2015 CVC regular season title. Juniata is a perfect 9-0 on the year in conference play while Rutgers-Newark is 8-1 with their only conference loss coming to Juniata on Feb. 24 in a 3-2 match. The Eagles close out their season with matches against Stevenson, Eastern Mennonite, and Hilbert this weekend.
Marymount is riding a three match winning streak as they continue their fight for a berth into the 2015 CVC Tournament. The Saints are 5-6 in conference play, putting them currently in the #3 seed position for the tournament. The Saints are set to face Rutgers-Newark on Saturday in their final regular season match. A win would gurantee them a spot in the tournament.
Rutgers-Newark is looking at avenging their lone conference loss this season when they host Juniata on Wednesday night. The Scarlet Raiders have three conference matches this week and with one win can lock up hosting rights of the 2015 CVC Tournament. They have won three straight matches and six of their last seven, with their only loss coming to NYU on March 10.
Stevenson is looking to snap a two match losing streak as they enter the final weekend of regular season play. The Mustangs fell to Rutgers-Newark and Cairn last weekend and will take on Juniata and Thiel this weekend. The Mustangs, 6-4 in the CVC, have secured a spot in the CVC Tournament and are currently the #2 seed.

Thiel puts their season on the line Saturday when they square off against Stevenson. The Tomcats are currently 4-7 in conference action and looking to grab one of two final playoff spots. With a win they can force no worse than a three way tie for the final two spots. The Tomcats had their two match winning streak snapped last weekend when they fell 3-0 to Rutgers-Newark.
