AROUND THE CVC

Cairn will look to snap their five match losing streak this week as they step outside of conference play for three matches. The Highlanders will face New Jersey City on Wednesday night before hosting New Paltz State and Brooklyn on Saturday in a Tri-Match series. Cairn is currently 7-10 overall this season.

The Royals had both scheduled matches last week postponed due to weather. The Royals were set to face Marymount and York last Saturday but were forced to move the matches because of snow. Currently the matches have to be rescheduled. The Royals get back into action this weekend with conference matches against Juniata and Thiel, giving them nearly two weeks off between matches.
Juniata picked up two more conference wins last week, sweeping Stevenson 3-0 and edging out Rutgers-Newark 3-2 in a battle for first-place in the CVC standings. The five set win for Juniata marked their first five set conference match since March 7 last year when they defeated Stevenson.
The Saints found the welcome confines of their home court last weekend, and notched a pair of wins. Playing at home for the first time this season Marymount picked up a pair of convincing wins over York. The Saints won the first match 25-14, 25-10, 25-19 and took the second match 25-14, 25-11, 25-11. Marymount is now 5-9 overall this season.
Rutgers-Newark rolled to the Bard Raptor Tournament title with three consecutive sweeps during tournament play. The Scarlet Raiders took down Staten Island, Mt. St. Vincent, and CCNY in straight sets to capture the title. Middle Hitter Cody Chidsey was named the Tournament MVP, hitting .684 in the second day of action.
The Mustangs went 1-1 last week with a 3-0 loss to Juniata but responded with a 3-1 win over Thiel. Stevenson hit .285 as a team in the win over Thiel with 57 kills. Kyle Pottieger and Patrick Schuyler led the attack with 15 kills while David Moler added 47 assists. Stevenson is now 7-6 overall and 3-1 in the CVC.

It was another week of split matches for the Tomcats. The Tomcats picked up a 3-0 win over Penn State-Behrend to start the week but then fell to Stevenson 3-1. Thiel is now 7-8 overall this season and 1-3 in the CVC. They will face Marymount and Eastern Mennonite in conference matches this weekend.
