AROUND THE CVC

Cairn opened the 2015 season by going 2-2 in the Johnson & Wales Tournament last weekend. The Highlanders dropped their first two matches but responded with 3-0 wins over Purchase College and Lesley University. Josiah Buss led Cairn with 40 kills over the four matches while Randall Colson hit .434 on the weekend and was named to the All-Tournament team.
Eastern Mennonite is off to a quick start this season, starting the year with a 3-1 record. The Royals have doubled up on Lancaster Bible College this season, sweeping them both meetings. They Royals also picked up a 3-2 win over Penn State-Behrend. Tim Callahan is hitting the ball well for the Royals with 42 kills, an average of 3.5 per set.
The Eagles are off to a 4-0 start this season including wins over #10 Elmira and #13 Baruch. Hosting their season opening tournament Juniata rolled to four wins, sweeping Hilbert and Elmira before topping Hunter 3-2 and Baruch 3-1. Paul Kuhn and Joe Bortak earned All-Tournament honors while Chad Albert was named the tournament MVP.
It was a busy week of action for the Saints, playing six matches in an eight day span. The Saints won their season opener 3-0 over Hilbert before staying on the road and dropping their next four. Marymount got back into the win column in their last outing, winning 3-1 over Medaille.
CVC newcomer Rutgers-Newark opened the season with a memorable trip, flying to Puerto Rico for three matches. The Raiders dropped all three matches before heading to Stevenson to face a pair of non-conference opponents. The Raiders are still looking for their first win of the season after falling to NYU and New Paltz State on the trip.
After starting the year with a 3-0 win over Lancaster Bible the #14 ranked Mustangs took on #4 New Paltz and #11 NYU falling 3-1 and 3-2. The Mustangs have four players with 20 or more kills already this season while David Moler is off to a fast start with 88 assists.
Thiel is off to a strong start this season, going 2-1 in their first three matches. The Tomcats defeated Hunter 3-1 and Hilbert 3-0 to secure their first wins of the season. Thiel will now host former CVC members Fontbonne, Mount St. Joseph, and Lakeland this weekend.
