CVC Announces Formation of New Conference
With the continued growth of men's volleyball at the NCAA Division III level, the Continental Volleyball Conference has recently approved a motion that will add three new programs while splitting into two separate single sport conferences.
The western portion of the CVC has voted to leave the CVC as of the end of the 2013-2014 season and start a new single sport conference located in the Midwest.  The CVC will stay in name and brand with the eastern portion of the conference and will be comprised of current CVC east members: Cairn University, Juniata College, Thiel College, Stevenson University, EMU, and Marymount University.  These schools voted unanimously to add Rutgers-Newark as the league's seventh member, effective for the '14-'15 season.
The newly formed "Midwest" conference will be comprised of current CVC members: MSOE, Lakeland, MSJ, Fontbonne, Carthage, and Dominican University.  Two institutions adding volleyball for next season, Loras College and Benedictine University were unanimously voted in as new members for the '14-'15 season.
CVC Commissioner Gary Williams stated, "This day is filled with mixed emotions.  We close a chapter on a very successful and competitive volleyball conference, one with a tremendous level of fierce competition and yet, one that represents the true embodiment of the spirit of the game with the utmost level of respect and collegiality among our member institutions.  As this chapter closes, a new conference, one that will continue to represent the ideals that we fostered in the CVC, is formed.  It has and always will be the our goal to not only be a leader in Division III Men's Volleyball on the court, but off the court as well, as we continue to encourage the growth of this great sport throughout the country. It is out of this spirit that new identities and brands need to be forged."
The current CVC administrative staff will lead both groups with their transitions and also begin the process of the branding and marketing of the new Midwest conference. The CVC was originally formed in 2011 and has been home to a total of 13 different Division III men's volleyball programs.
