2014 CVC All-Conference Teams Announced

The 2014 Continental Volleyball Conference All-Conference teams have been announced and feature four players that repeated as All-Conference performers from last year. Repeat performers include Joe Bortak and Paul Kuhn from Juniata College in the East Division and Jon Storm and Connor Wexter from Carthage College in the West Division.

Kuhn, a junior outside hitter, was tied for second in conference play with a .411 hitting percentage while averaging 2.21 kills per set. In addition he finished in the top 10 in the conference in service aces per set. Joining Kuhn as All-Conference East member from last year is teammate Joe Bortak. Bortak, a junior middle blocker, led the conference in hitting percentage with a .426 mark while averaging 2.22 kills and 0.89 blocks per set.

Juniata placed two more players on the All-Conference East team in sophomore middle blocker Chad Albert and junior rightside hitter Alex McColgin. Albert averaged 1.97 kills per set while also ranking in the top 20 in solo blocks and total blocks. McColgin meanwhile averaged 2.85 kills per set while hitting .271 and finishing 13th in total blocks per set at 0.93.

Stevenson University had three players named to the All-Conference team in Jon Martin, David Moler, and Scott Morantz. Martin, a senior rightside hitter, was second on the team in kills per set this season and ranked 11th during conference play at 2.89 per set while hitting .303 during CVC play. He was also fifth in service aces and first in digs at 3.0 per set. Moler, a junior setter, averaged 10.59 assists per set which ranked second in CVC play. Morantz, a junior, earned All-Conference libero honors after averaging 3.0 digs per set during conference play. In 22 sets Morantz recorded 66 digs and added four double digit dig matches.

Thiel College's Michael Whitelock rounds out the All-Conference East team. Whitelock, a junior middle hitter, was tied for second in hitting percentage with a .411 mark while averaging 2.06 kills per set. He finished 11th in service aces and seventh in total blocks with 35.

The CVC All-Conference West Team consists of four players from Carthage College and a total of four different schools. Wexter, a senior setter, is the reigning CVC Player of the Year and highlights this year's All-Conference team. Wexter led the conference in assists per set with 12.09 and totaled 411 assists in just 10 conference matches. Storm, a junior outside hitter, joins Wexter as a repeat All-Conference member. He was seventh in the conference with 3.70 kills per set while ranking fifth in hitting percentage at a .360 clip. He was also ninth in service aces.

Teammates Jim Schultz and J.P. Tulaka join Wexter and Storm on the All-Conference team. Schultz, a senior outside hitter, ranked fourth in kills with 3.97 per set while hitting .263 during conference play. He finished second in the conference in points per set at 4.6 and was eighth in service aces. Tulaka, a sophomore middle blocker, finished in the top 20 in all three blocking categories including 15th in total blocks with 28. He hit .500 during conference play and averaged 2.03 kills per set.

Fontbonne University's James Stika, a sophomore libero, was named to the All-Conference team after ranking fourth in digs per set with 2.55 per set. In 38 sets during conference play Stika recorded 97 digs and finished the year with three double digit dig performances.

The final three spots on the All-Conference team are comprised of CVC newcomers. Alec Redlich, a junior outside hitter from Lakeland College, ranked in th top five in both kills (136) and kills per set (4.0) as well as ninth in solo blocks and 18th in digs per set.

Mount St. Joseph's Alex Vohland, a freshman outside hitter, was named to the All-Conference team after averaging 3.81 kills per set which was good for sixth in the conference. He was also sixth in digs with 2.31 per set and ranked in the top five in points per set.

Alex Coyne, a freshman setter from Dominican University, rounds out the All-Conference team. Coyne was third in assists with 9.97 per set and 22nd in digs with 1.83 per set.
