Carthage’s  Wexter and Thiel’s Dante McCoy Named CVC Players of the Week

Milwaukee – Carthage junior setter Connor Wexter (New Lenox, Ill. / Lincoln-Way Central) and Thiel senior opposite hitter Dante McCoy (Reading, Pa./Holy Name) receives the Continental Volleyball Conference player week for March 10. Wexter receives the honor for his outstanding performance at the CVC West Challenge weekend, while McCoy coveted the honor for high level success during the CVC East Challenge weekend.

Wexter and the Red Men went 3-0 for the weekend including a five set barn burner with UC Santa Cruz in which he led Carthage to a 25-18, 23-25, 27-25, 21-25, 20-18 victory.

In the match, Wexter tallied 71 assists and 14 digs in the win over the #5 Banana Slugs. In ten sets, Wexter had 133 assists, for a 13.30 assists per set average. He added 30 digs, 8 kills, 5 total blocks and 11.5 points to his weekly totals. This is Wexter’s second CVC Player of the Week award for 2013. Carthage is coached by LJ Marx.

McCoy  had an incredible week of his own, leading the Tomcats in a four-set victory over nationally ranked Stevenson. In the match against the Mustangs, he hammered out 12 kills and 17 digs  in the match. In a tough five-set loss to Cairn, McCoy had 20 kills and a .333 hitting percentage while collecting nine digs. On the weekend, Jones tallied 45 kills (3.75 kps), and led Thiel to a 2-1 record.   McCoy coveted two service aces, 6.5 total blocks and 50.5 points at the CVC East Challenge weekend. This is McCoys’ first CVC award for 2013. Thiel is coached by Steve Brewer.
