Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Volleyball's Late Rally Falls Short at Theil

GREENVILLE, Pa. – After a ten day lay-off, the Hilbert College men's volleyball team returned to action tonight.  The Hawks were defeated at Thiel College in a three-set, non-conference match and fell to 0-10 on the season.

Michael Podgorny posted his eighth consecutive double figure kill match as he was credited with 10 kills in 27 attempts.  Adam Heftka finished with 21 assists and three blocks while Tanner Makowski led with eight digs, one more than Podgorny's total.

The Hawks earned 22 kills, producing eight in the second and third sets.  Hilbert was slow to attack in the opening set, falling 25-12.  They finished with their best hitting set (.097) while falling 25-17 in the middle set.

After trailing 7-3 in the third set, Hilbert trimmed the score to 7-4.  Thiel went on another 5-point run and built a 12-4 advantage.  Then, when the score moved to 15-5, Hilbert rallied.  The Hawks outscored the hosts 9-3 cutting the game's status to 18-16.  David Arlaud was credited with a solo block which brought Hilbert within one point, 21-20 but that was as close as the Hawks got, falling 25-21.

Another NEAC crossover weekend is on tap for the Hawks.  Hilbert will travel to Keuka Park this weekend and battle Wells and SUNY Poly Saturday before they face the hosts on Sunday.  Fans can follow the Keuka / Hilbert match (2pm) via live video and live stats.
