Falcons Sweep Cougars in First New York Contest

UNION, N.J. – The CUW men's volleyball team started their New York trip with a bang on Friday afternoon.

The Falcons took on the Cougars of Kean University in their second all-time meeting. The birds pushed the series to .500 with their win.

The Blue and White flexed their muscles with a three-set sweep of the Cougars with final scores of 25-16, 25-19, and 25-22.

The first set saw the Falcons score 16.5 of their own points with 11 kills hitting .364. The offense was not the only thing scoring in the set with the Falcons picking up seven block assists in the set alone. Freshman Ben Kayser (Milwaukee, Wis.) led the flock's offense with four kills on seven swings hitting .571.

The birds didn't waste much time in set two as they scored 20 of their 25 points in the set. 12 block assists and four service aces pushed the defensive scoring to match the offensive with 10 points each on 10 kills.

Kayser once again led the offense with half of their kills on 11 swings. Freshman Tate Miller (Anthem, Ariz.) finished off the set with a kill off an assist from sophomore Logan Kebisek (Brookfield, Wis.).

The Blue and White cooled off in the third set with only 15 points of their 25 coming earned. Even with their drop in offensive efficiency, they continued their dominance with a 25-22 final score for the set and earned the match sweep. The net defense saw one solo block and four assist blocks for a total of three points, their lowest of the match.

Kebisek finished the match with 27 assists as well as two kills, four digs, and two block assists.

The 12.5 blocking points are tied for second in Falcon three-set matchups with the top spot occupied by a 14.5-point blocking night against Millikin in 2020. The 24 total blocks are the most for the Falcons in a three-set match this season.

Kayser led the Falcon offense with 10 kills. Close behind were Miller and junior Spencer Herman (Kimberly, Wis.) with eight kills.

The Blue and White hit .207 for the match with 32 total kills and 15 errors on 82 swings.

The birds take a day to enjoy the Big Apple and will be back in action on Sunday when they will face New York University.
