Korey Schwab Has Big Day at Net For Hawks



HUNTINGTON, Pa. – The Hilbert College men's volleyball team suffered similar losses on day two of the Juniata College tournament. 

Hilbert opened the morning with a 25-19,25-10,25-14 match defeat to Thiel College and then waited around till later in the afternoon to challenge Hunter College at 3pm.  Hunter jumped to 25 points first in three sets (25-18,25-19,25-14) to drop Hilbert to 0-4 on the season.

Junior Korey Schwab led at the net for the Hawks finishing with 25 kills (4.16 kills per set).  Hilbert used a setter-by committee offense against Thiel, but Dave Mellerski tallied 32 assists against Hunter. 

In the 9 am match against Thiel, Schwab opened the day with 10 kills.  Andrew Wolbert earned next highest amount with three for a team that earned as many kills (20) as hitting errors.  With so few kills, Brett Kane turned out to be the big assist-man finishing with nine.  Adam Heftka stepped up to the front line and passed for seven assists while Ryan Ratajczak was credited with two.

Bryce Perry and Korey Schwab combined for 14 of the Hawks 26 digs, pickup up eight and six respectively.

Thiel tallied 36 team kills off a .329 attack percentage and collectively earned 11 team blocks.

Later in the day, David Mellerski had bigger results as the setter.  His team mates earned more kills (33) and he was credited with 32 assists. 

Korey Schwab again led with 15 kills (.323) and another service ace to finish with two on the day.  Bryce Perry gave Hilbert seven points off kills and Andrew Wolbert chipped in six.

Ryan Ratajczak finished the match with team-high seven digs.

Hunter finished the match hitting .438 and collected 44 kills and 12 total blocks.

Hilbert returns to action in town next weekend when they travel to Medaille College for a neutral-site game against #14 ranked Stevenson University at 1pm.
