Eagles Vanquish Battlers

Eagles Vanquish Battlers

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The #15 Juniata men's volleyball team stayed perfect with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-17) win over visiting Division II Alderson Broaddus, Saturday afternoon.

A service error by the Battlers was the first point JC scored at home this season. A Reese Ganter (Reading, Pa. / Exeter Twp. HS) ace doubled the lead early. The visitors stayed even with JC, and a kill gave them a 12-13 lead. Back-to-back kills by Kevin Duffy (Carlisle, Pa. / Carlisle HS) gave the Eagles the lead back for a moment before a service error tied the score at 14. A Battler attack error, a block by Robert Bowling (Columbus, Ohio / Hilliard Darby) and Luke Hoffman (Reading, Pa. / Exeter Township HS) followed by a Tyler Goldsborough (Reading, Pa. / Exeter Township HS) kill made it 19-15. Alderson Broaddus took three of the next four points to get within two, 20-18, but Juniata closed strong, taking four of the next five points to reach set point before Goldsborough ended set one with a kill.

In the second set, Max Cooley's (Bethel Park, Pa. / Bethel Park H.S.) ace made it 8-4, and the Eagles kept Alderson Broaddus at arm's length the rest of the set. With the score at 21-15, a kill from Will Phelan (Saegertown, Pa. / Saegertown H.S.), an ace from Will Hafen (Las Vegas, Nev. / Bishop Gorman) and a Battler attack error gave JC set point with Jordan Orth-Moore (Annapolis, Md. / International School of Kenya) notching the kill that ended set two.

The third set was more of the same, with Juniata leading by three midway through, 15-12, before they made their move. Drew Hunker (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny) put down a kill, followed by one from Duffy, Phelan served up an ace,  and Goldsborough tallied a kill. The visitors called timeout to try and stop the run, but they committed an attack error and Goldsborough's second kill of the run made it 21-12. Alderson Broaddus managed to keep the match going for a bit, but JC wound up winning 25-17 on a Tanner Kuruzovich (Matilda, Pa. / State College Area H.S.) kill.

The Eagles will travel to take on Marymount next Saturday at 3:00.
