Rochester, N.Y. – The Hilbert College men's volleyball team returned to Nazareth College for day two of the Golden Flyer Invitational. In the opening game against Wells College the Hawks fell 3-1 (21-25, 25-14, 26-24, 25-21) and against Thiel College Hilbert lost 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 27-25).
 
The Hawks came out strong against Wells, using three straight kills and an attack error to take an early 4-0 lead. A service ace by Adam Heftka extended Hilbert's lead to the largest of the set at 13-7. Wells fought back but could not get closer than three points and David Mellerski's kill won the Hawks the set, 25-21.  The Hawks recorded 14 kills in that opening set. Wells was able to easily claim the second set 25-14 due to their 14 kills compared to Hilbert's six. Despite Wells' 5-0 advantage early in the third set, the Hawks rallied and knotted the game up at eight with a Korey Schwab kill. The set stayed within three points the rest of the way but errors by the Hawks cost them the set and they dropped the third 26-24. The Hawks led for most of the fourth set. After being ahead 14-12, Wells went on a 10-2 run capitalizing on Hawk errors. Wells claimed the set and game 25-21.
 
Schwab and Kane each recorded eleven kills, along with eight and 13 digs, respectively. Ryan Ratajczak led the Hawks with 15 digs. Heftka tallied 34 assists.
 
In the second game against Thiel, the Hawks struggled offensively, having only 11 kills in the first two sets combined, whereas Thiel notched 31 kills after two. The Hawks stepped up in the third set, recording 11 kills and forcing the game to go to extra points, but ultimately falling 27-25.
 
Schwab led all players with nine kills and 15 digs. Kane added another six kills and 10 digs and Ratajczak recorded eleven digs. Heftka had all 21 of Hilbert's assists..
 
The Hawks (0-9) face Wells College at Medaille on February 13th at 6pm.
